Discounted Dental Implants – Are They Too Good To Be True?
There’s an old saying in this world that ‘you get what you pay for’ and this is certainly true of dental implants. However as dental implants are becoming more and more popular clinics are advertising their services all over the country. From dental implants in Richmond, to restorative dentistry in Manchester, they all need to get their services noticed by the general public.
In order to gain market share, some dental practices will advertise in local newspapers, on the internet, or through good old fashioned mail drop campaigns and will seek to offer incentives to bring in new clients. Whilst there’s nothing wrong with this per se, when clinics start advertising things like ‘Free implant when you purchase a crown’ or ‘Get the crown of your choice free, when you buy an implant’ it sounds a pretty good deal. However are they too good to be true? Let’s investigate further.
Whichever way you look at it, dental implant surgery isn’t cheap. The reason for this is that the actual implant itself (the screw-like rod) is made from titanium which in itself is an expensive metal. In addition, the rest of the parts that make up the entire entity including the crown can be made from porcelain and other semi-precious metals. The final element which will hike up the cost is the surgical procedure itself. This can be long and extensive and often involves lots of processes. So not only are you paying for the materials used, but you’re also quite rightly paying for the skills and time of the surgeon.
So how can some clinics offer fantastic discounts?
They may use inferior products
We already know that the implants themselves aren’t cheap because of their make-up. However some unscrupulous clinics get around the cost issue by deciding to use less expensive implants containing cheaper materials which haven’t necessarily been tried and tested. The catch is that important characteristics needed in implants such as titanium, design, surface type and indeed the sterility may not be present. As a result these implants could lead to infections, bone loss and having to pay again to have them properly replaced.
They may charge more in the first place
Another trick is to charge way more for the implant or the crown in the first place. This is so that they recoup the cost of the other parts through the overpricing of the initial part. Advertising it in this way makes the potential client believe that they’re getting a really good deal, when in fact they probably aren’t. This is one of the oldest advertising tricks in the book. A way to get round this is to speak to a few local dental implant clinics in your area and find out how much they charge. Armed with this information, it gives you a pretty good idea of whether you really are getting a good deal.
The bottom line is if it’s too good to be true then it probably is! Don’t get suckered in to purchasing cheap implants because the chances are, that they are going to end up costing you more in the long run.
